To step away from talking specifically about Peru and my traveling experiences, I'd like to mention the concept of self worth. A lot of people imagine having a true sense of themselves or finding their worth. Some may think they can find this by traveling the World. They often think, if they discover new places, they'll discover themselves. I'm here to tell you, that traveling the World merely leads to discovering the World, and that alone. Sure opening yourself up to new experiences can definitely teach you things about yourself, but it is only you who can discover your worth and develop a true love for yourself.
Things I have experienced and then learned from have mainly taught me that I had a problem with settling. I tended to just be okay with everything going on around me instead of taking charge of my life and getting what I truly want. My parents raised me to always put others before myself. I totally agree with this, however you reach a certain age where it is necessary to be demanding and selfish for the good of yourself. This doesn't make you a bad person; knowing what you want from your life is powerful. People respect you more when you truly understand the purpose of your actions. You do things with purpose and not just because. Self love is being aware of yourself and choosing certain things in order to obtain whatever goal you are seeking.
Social media seems to think that self love is a mindset like, "I'm a bad bitch," or "She ain't me though." This is completely wrong. Those can be beneficial to your selfesteem, but really self love is a choice; not mindset. Self love is choosing yourself over and over again without question. Always making sure you are taken care of. There will always be situations in our life that we cannot control so because of this we have to take control of the ones that we can. Make them go our way.
Discovering your self worth is a beautiful discovery because you finally realize that you deserve the absolute best things for you. And it's not that the World owes you anything, it's that YOU owe you everything. There isn't anything that is too good for you. You pick up on the fact that the days before you realized your self worth, were days you could have been gifting yourself. Not to say these days were wasted because during that time you were growing and learning, just like you do every single day. So, my opinion on having self love and an awareness of self worth, well, everyone has it. Everyone finds it. Sometimes it just takes others longer to figure it out. But when you do, I promise you'll never go back. At the end of the day, your mind and your body lay down and sleep together; take care of them.
