Homesick or Sick of Home?

Homesickness is inevitable when you leave a place that has carried you from birth into your adult years. It's even more inevitable when you were raised in a close knit home. Sometimes it can feel like sadness, but most of the time it's isolation. When you live in a house with 10 or more people who have no clue who you are or where you come from, it can be hard to call it home. The feeling can swallow you a bit and make you feel uninvited. There isn't much to do when it comes to conquering the feeling. The World spins regardless of how you feel. You just have to take it slow and find enjoyment in each day you breath. Because when you face facts, life is never easy when you need it to be.

But then you have these days where all you feel is joy, fun and excitement. These days far outweigh the bad ones. Any time someone from my home asks me how I am or how Peru is, I always say it's amazing and it's beautiful. I never tell them if it's a bad day. I do this because I know, the following days will be just that; beautiful. Because again, the good days outweigh the bad. Then I have these weird days where I feel so happy to be away from my hometown and sometimes just the United States in general.

It isn't that I don't like where I come from. I don't know how to explain it other than it just gets old. I see the drama my friends get into or the countless same old parties and I feel so grateful to be away. It sounds smug, but I don't care. Life is about seeing the World. And then people constantly make excuses for not traveling in order to justify why they are missing out on a better life. "I don't have the money," "I can't take off of work," "I have a family." While these are all important aspects of one's life, it is not an excuse to miss out on adventure. You can always make more money when you come home, a job is just a job and if they don't give you the very few days off that you want, you can find one that will. And a family is family for a reason; they will support your dreams if they truly love you. Some may even go with you! Sometimes I cannot understand why people want to stay in the same place forever, but I respect it I guess. Most days I guess you could say I am just sick of home. I am sick of the same old things, same old parties and the same old people. Meeting new people and trying new things is something I have always enjoyed.

This trip is a once in a lifetime experience. So if you are debating studying abroad, do it. It will forever be the greatest decision you could ever make. And don't go to the typical places everyone goes to. I mean if it has significant meaning to you then go, but if you are looking for culture and excitement, go off the beaten path.

Try to remember that after we die, we do not know for sure what happens next. So for now, treat it as one life; you only get this one chance. If people treated every single day as a once in a lifetime opportunity, people would take way more risks and way more chances. I didn't mean for this post to turn into a life lesson, but don't waste your time. Enjoy it. Explore this massive World we live in and take in every single detail that you can because you only get to do it once.
